We are a nonprofit organization (501(c)(3)) focusing on helping the homeless across America. 100% of all donations go to helping the homeless. All administrative costs and expenses are paid for by board members who are volunteers (not paid).
40% of the homeless population suffer from some form of mental illness and 10% are Veterans. I'm retired Air Force, have many family members that have and are currently serving in the military and my son's struggle with mental illness is the reason I decided helping the homeless was going to be the mission of Love to NIC!
Every year we travel to a new city and hand out shoes, socks and gloves to the homeless on the streets. So far we've handed out over 700 pairs of shoes in just 4 1/2 years!
Nic and I were supposed to go to a new NFL football stadium every year for his birthday on December 6th. Unfortunately we only made it to 3 stadiums together but I've made it my promise to continue to visit a new stadium every year. Now, in Nic's honor, each visit to a new city and stadium includes helping the homeless with shoes, socks and gloves. Our goal is to provide some encouraging words and to remind them to touch base with their family. The below note is included in each pair of shoes.
"These shoes are given with love to honor the xx birthday of my son, Nic who was taken from this world way too early. As a mother of a wonderful son who suffered from mental illness, I always worried about him and his well being. Please seek medical help if you need it, stay positive, and reach out to your family to let them know how you're doing. A mother's love never dies, regardless of distance or age. I hope these shoes provide you comfort as you follow your path to a positive and happy life."
We're always collecting and accepting donations of new and lightly used shoes, new socks and gloves.
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help those in need. Together, we can make a difference.
